Art Heals
Funded Mar 27, 2024Through your generous support, the students in the 7th Period/After School Art Program at the high school have been able to use the art supplies to express emotions through intuitive painting. Having a selection of high quality acrylic paint and surfaces has inspired them to step out of their comfort zone and create art that is meaningful to them. The students remarked that the program is a safe space to rediscover the joy of creating that they had not felt since painting at an easel in kindergarten.
Many of the students that have found their way into the program are students in special education programs at the high school. Many deal with anxiety, depression, and diagnosed mental health issues. Many need a space that they can practice appropriate social emotional strategies. Many are English language learners. Many are athletes. Many just needed to reconnect with peers. All of the students have rediscovered that art comes in all forms and is created from the heart. On any given day, the room is filled with discussion and a common love of creativity.
Your donations have done more than buy supplies for these high school students. You have helped to create a community in the classroom and have helped to strengthen community bonds within the neighborhood. I have witnessed students have a sense of empowerment and increased confidence. Most importantly, I have been inspired by the emotional connection of the students as they continue to bloom into the wonderful human beings that they are. These are kids to be proud of.
An additional thank you for LOFT for the generous support and funding.”
