Around the World in a Middle School
Funded Sep 24, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation of the RAND McNally World Geography Atlases. As a result of these new texts, our rural students are able to get a better grasp of the the world stage around them. Current events and breaking news continue and these atlases have been a crucial resource for helping student to identify some of these major events. After all, not only are they citizens of Pueblo West, Colorado, but they are truly citizens of the world as well. With recent events in Ukraine and Gaza to name just a few, they can be in the know and identify important world hotbeds, where breaking events are happening.
As a former Social Studies teacher I know that this will have a huge impact. One of educators' greatest frustrations in Geography is students mixing up cities with states and countries with continents, etc. These atlases will help to rectify some of these common errors. Students will also learn about the 5 Themes of Geography. This will help them to not only learn about the land, but also the inhabitants of it, around the world. As we continue to move out of the Covid shutdown, these atlases will help teachers in an often overlooked core class-Social Studies and citizenship and world knowledge of their students.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Bridgman
