Lunar New Year School Celebrations: Empowering Asian Students
Funded Nov 27, 2023Thanks to your donation, we were able to organize two fantastic events for our school community: the Lego and Calligraphy workshop, and the Lunar New Year celebration. These events not only enriched our students' learning experiences but also fostered a sense of cultural appreciation and community spirit.
During the Lego and Calligraphy workshop, students enthusiastically engaged in hands-on activities centered around the theme of Chinese New Year. They worked collaboratively to build Lego structures depicting scenes from this festive occasion, allowing them to explore cultural traditions in a creative and interactive way. Additionally, they had the opportunity to try their hand at Calligraphy, writing blessings for themselves and their loved ones in the elegant strokes of traditional Chinese characters. The excitement and enthusiasm in the classroom were palpable as students immersed themselves in these culturally enriching activities.
When our students first laid eyes on the materials you generously provided, their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. They eagerly dove into the Lego building and Calligraphy writing, eager to explore and create. Their enthusiasm only grew as they delved deeper into the activities, realizing the endless possibilities for creativity and expression that lay before them.
The Lunar New Year celebration was another highlight made possible by your support. With about 70 students in attendance, the event was a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity and unity. As students enjoyed delicious food together, they also had the opportunity to learn about the various ways Lunar New Year is celebrated in different cultures, including Bhutanese, Vietnamese, and Chinese traditions. Through lively discussions and presentations, students gained insight into the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our global community, fostering a deeper appreciation for diversity and inclusivity.
Looking ahead, the next steps for our students involve building upon the knowledge and experiences gained from these events. In our current classroom lessons and projects, we are continuing to explore themes of cultural diversity and global awareness. Through engaging activities and discussions, we aim to deepen our students' understanding of different cultures and traditions, fostering empathy, respect, and appreciation for diversity in our interconnected world.
Once again, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your support and generosity. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on the lives of our students, enriching their educational journey and empowering them to become global citizens who embrace diversity and celebrate cultural differences. Thank you for helping us create meaningful learning experiences that will inspire and uplift our students for years to come.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ting
