A Place for Everyone!

Thanks again for your generous contribution. Our standing desk has allowed more of our students to feel like there is a space for them within our classroom.

Upon its arrival students were very excited about the prospect of helping to build something for our shared space. The desk was entirely unpacked and assembled by students from three different classes; in two of those classes students worked in small groups to achieve their goal. Once the desk was in place it became a hot ticket item for the younger students and encouraged group discussions and the development of a system for who would get to use it and when etc. The desk then, in addition to providing much needed seating options, has also facilitated group work and communication. For the older students the desk has been used as needed, with little need for conversation. Students use the desk not just because they feel like standing but also on days when they need space from others, for small group projects, and recently a student with a minor injury found it to be a more comfortable option than being seated.

Having this desk in our space brings us closer to creating an inclusive environment that supports the diverse learning needs of our students.”
