Help Come True, a Love for Reading in Children Renewed
Funded Jan 8, 2025Thank you so much for helping to fund and seeing value in our Donor's Choose Project! Our students are so excited about the prospect of having a special place to go to read and discuss literature. We cannot wait to share photos of our new reading nook once it is put together and begin the process of deepening our love and skills for reading. Thanks again for helping our vision come to life!”

Math Manipulatives Make Mathematicians
Funded Sep 15, 2023The fifth grade students of Cornelsen Elementary School would like to extend the warmest gratitude in funding the math manipulative materials for our classroom! At first when the boxes arrived in our classroom, the students were very curious why we had all these boxes in our classroom all of a sudden. I explained that all our hard work in writing a grant through Donors Choose was fully funded. Next, came the joy of seeing the reactions on their faces when we had the privilege of opening each box to see what was inside. First, they saw eight boxes of math themed file folder games based from state standards with a variety of skill and mastery ability levels. Next, they saw Cuisenaire Rods and fraction bars to aide in learning measurement and fractions. Finally, we pulled out connectable base ten blocks that help reinforce place value concepts.
Once we pulled all the wonderful materials out of their boxes, we couldn't wait to put them to good use. First, we used the base ten blocks to apply the concept of adding and subtracting decimals to the hundredths place value. Then, the students had a math file folder exploration day where they could self select math skill areas to practice skills of independent need. To date, the students have said that the math file folder games make learning math more fun, and the base ten blocks help them visualize place value. They said they cannot wait to try out the Cuiseniare Rods and the fraction bars next!
It is with sincere appreciation that the students and I say once more, "Thank you," for all you have done to make math come alive in our classroom and reach all kinds of minds! We look forward to enjoying and caring for these wonderful materials for years to come!”
