Book Haven

Funded Sep 6, 2023

The new texts purchased for my 4th grade class were placed in our classroom library. Many of the books in our library were outdated and torn. Many of my students were not motivated or interested to read any of the books from our library. Students were unable to make connections to the text due to the outdated topics. Now with texts like, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson I can not keep books on the shelf.

During Morning Meeting, students are book shopping daily. We now have a 'suggested book thread' in the classroom. After reading a new text, students are sharing a short summary of the book and why it comes highly recommended. This allows for students to make personal connections to other students in the classroom. Reading allow students to work on fluency, build vocabulary, and improve vocabulary.

Here at Kavod we are book lovers and it's my goal to spark the love for literature in young readers. With our new book collection, we are able to do just that. We are so thankful.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Collins
