  • Grow Library Grow!

    Funded Dec 27, 2023

With the new books, we do read alouds and discuss the life lesson they learned from the book. Students complete an activity to write about the book and this helps me understand my students as a reader. We also have parent read aloud days when parents read the books and lead discussions. Our students enjoy listening to the stories and share lots of interesting thoughts.

During our reading workshop time, students are able to use these books to help them practice the reading skill they just learned. Also during literacy centers, they can reread the books to help them practice different skills as they continue to push their thinking. Our students enjoy rereading the books during their independent reading time. After reading the books again, they sometimes come to me to share something new they noticed.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zhang

  • Read Away My Friends!

    Funded Oct 17, 2023

When reading these new texts, students were taught about life lessons, studying the characters and story elements. We also recently used the book Hair Love to read during Black History Month. Using these texts, students were able to practice reading skills that they needed extra review for. They enjoyed listening to different stories to learn about different messages and life lessons they can use in life.

Reading in our classroom is exploring. Students have the opportunity to explore through different books and determine different features and elements in each book. After reading, students are able to share what they learned and their thoughts to each other. They can read independently and partner read.

Students who love interesting stories and complete fun activities are enjoying the new books. They enjoy the adventures the characters are experience and sometimes relates it to themselves. Every time a new book is read to them, they have many wonderings about the characters. This helps them build their reading comprehension.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zhang

  • Showcase My Masterpiece!

    Funded Sep 17, 2023

In my classroom, my students and I have been using the new resources in many ways. We used the chart paper to create anchor charts that allows students to revisit when they need to remind themselves of the skills they've learned. The students also used them to create posters for their math projects. With the document camera and clicker, my students were able to project and present their awesome work to their classmates. When I need to model a certain strategy or skill, I was able to easily show it to my students with the document camera.

When they first saw the materials, my students and I were very excited to use it. They loved using the document camera to show their work. This encourages and engages them to try their best while completing their assignments. The next steps are to use these materials to plan and present their projects to other students and teachers. They will brainstorm other ways they can use these resources.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zhang
