Life is Full of Color
Funded Nov 29, 2023Thanks again for your support in funding this color ink printer. It has been a game changer not only in my prepping time but also for student's ability to engage in picture exchange for requesting using colored pictures.
In the past, I would have to find a black and white drawing of a familiar object or toy and print it out. Then I would spend time coloring the pictures. It was so time consuming and often left me with limited picture options and sometimes approximate illustrations of what I actually needed. Now I am able to print picture objects in color that look like the real thing! I can also take pictures of the unique action response toys that I can't find on google and print it out in color. It makes requesting for desired items using picture exchange so much accessible for students to understand.
Not only is the color ink printing amazing, I can also make regular black and white copies without having to go to the printing room and waiting in line while the teachers print assignments for classes of 20 something students. As a speech therapist all my lessons address a student's particular goal, so most of the time I only need to print 1-3 copies of something for a particular group. Having access to this printer has given me the option to print what I need when I need it. I don't have to print in bulk out of concern that I may not have access to the printer or worse, it's out of toner.
I can go on and on about how much this printer was truly needed. Thank you so much for supporting me and my students by funding this project. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

Funded Oct 15, 2023Thank you again for your support. My students enjoy the Piggie and Elephant series. Here is how I use the books to reinforce my reading intervention. Most students reading at this level are still learning foundational skills. They are learning letter sound, blending words and increasing their sight word knowledge. After we go over the reading intervention lessons, I use the books to spark their interest in reading. The Piggie and Elephant series is so funny and the kids enjoy it. With few words on a page, repeated words, sight words and decodable words, students recognize words that they are learning to read and are excited to try and read parts of the book themselves. It serves as a great motivational reinforcement for students after working so hard on their reading in small groups.
I also use the Piggle and Elephant series and the social emotional learning books with students who have social and pragmatic goals. The characters and storyline are great to use when teaching about friendship, perspective taking and social norms. The illustrations allow students to think beyond just the literal words in the book and allow them to opportunity to analyze the character's feelings.
The "A Boy Call BAT" series is being used as a read aloud with students who need more support with reading comprehension. The chapters are short which allows me to finish a chapter within the session. Students are able to use the dry erase magnetic tiles to 'stop and jot' ideas as they listen to the story. Story mapping is also so much more fun when you are able to move magnetic tiles around.
The speech mouth has had a huge impact for my students that have articulation errors. It is so easy to explain where their tongue needs to be placed to produce a particular sound. The students like the feeling of the tongue in their hands and enjoy learning where and how the tongue moves.
Finally, the reading comprehension posters are an added bonus of vibrant color as well as great strategies for readers to refer to when they are thinking and analyzing the text when reading. The students are always seeking a peek when they need a little support. Thanks again for your support.”
