Funded Sep 1, 2023Thank you so much for your donations to my students! They have been so thrilled about the new graphic novels; they have been checking them out to take home and excitedly telling their friends about which one they're going to read next. Students are using the books not just for reading enjoyment, but also for learning. They write one sticky note per page using a color-coded system to make connections to their life, express confusion, or voice further curiosity about the material. This system helps them become more deeply involved in their reading and ensures they are thinking about what they read, not just turning pages and looking at the pictures.
The students are also enjoying the sharpies and have made posters using them. Some of the posters include Treatment Agreements where students discuss and agree upon how they will treat each other, the teacher, and how they want to be treated. This is then hung up as a reminder of our agreed upon classroom norms. Students also created a beautiful display for Hispanic Heritage Month and are working on one for Dia de los Muertos.”
With gratitude,
Ms. LaBelle
