  • Expressing Yourself

    Funded Aug 22, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation. We quickly put your donation to work. We are working on community building and using the easel paper to share different ideas. For example, students are working towards having a classroom discussion about our novel. We knew we would need to take baby steps. One of the first steps we did was to start a brainstorming activity using the large easel paper. It was low risk. We then moved into a silent discussion using the paper. The students wrote ideas and others responded to the ideas.

The easel paper has helped to allow all students to communicate and participate in discussions.

Thank you for your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Willis

  • Building Relationships through Communication

    Funded Sep 24, 2023

Thank you so much for the donation. I purchased several handheld translators that were used in the classroom. In my classroom, we have several students who do not speak English. Understanding assignments is difficult for nonspeaking English students. They often feel left out and not a part of classes. Also, it is difficult to develop relationships due to the language barrier.

I quickly charged up the translators and put them to use! They were used in two ways. The first was to clarify the expectations/directions of the classroom assignments. The translators helped students to understand the big ideas and orient them to the assignments. This helped their understanding. The second way they were put into use was to just help with conversations with students. I wanted to get to know them and to share small details of our lives. Both of these types of communication increased communication which enhanced our relationship. These two increased student engagement.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Willis

  • Small Group Engagement

    Funded Aug 31, 2023

Thank you so much for the donation of a whiteboard and whiteboard markers. I have put them to use! In my classroom, we do a lot of small group work. The groups are selected based on areas for growth. When I have students in a small group, I am able to pull over the rolling whiteboard and provide individualized instruction AND visuals. It has helped me to quickly explain big ideas visually when working with students and they learn with the visual.

I have also used the rolling whiteboard for other instruction. I have used it for a list of the vocabulary words of the day, a place to put background information, announcements, and other classroom information. The whiteboard stands out in the classroom and draws attention. It offers a visual to all of my students. This addition to my classroom has been invaluable and I appreciate the donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Willis
