  • Help Room 208 Get Their First Musical Instruments

    Funded Jan 26, 2018

I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for my students. Because of you, my students now each have their very own recorder. I teach them music lessons in class on a daily basis with their recorder lesson books and they are able to take the recorders home to practice what they have learned. I am so impressed with how quickly the students have learned to read music and play songs on the recorder. Students have also started playing songs with the xylophones and tone bells while other students play their recorders.

My students were so excited when I handed them each their recorders and song books. Their eyes were filled with elation. They bring the recorders proudly back and forth to school every day.

Our next step is for the students to perform a few melodies for their parents at Open House. The students are going to choose which songs they perform. They are excited to show their parents how much they have learned. Thank you for bringing the joy of music into my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Manzo

  • Help Foster Imagination through Art

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donation of art supplies to our classroom. We are using the new art resources to create amazing art projects like a three dimensional self portrait and a torn metal art collage. These projects would not have been possible without your donations of these materials.

I could feel the excitement in the air when my students first saw the brand new art supplies . There were squeals of delight as my students opened the brand new watercolor sets and oil pastels. I wish you could have been there to witness this.

Our next project with these art supplies will be a watercolor resist in the style of Joan Miro. My students are looking forward to it.

Thank you again for bringing joy to my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Manzo

  • Send My Students on Adventures Through Books

    Funded Jan 27, 2012

I want to extend an enthusiastic thank you for donating quality literature to my classroom. Because of your donation, my students are now able to bring home books to read with their families.

My students were so excited to receive the book donation. Their eyes lit up as they saw the brand new books from some of their favorite authors.

My students now beg for more time during silent reading time. One day recently, my student Jake even told me he was so lost in his book, he forgot he was in the classroom.

Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Manzo

My students are a jovial and curious group of third graders (seven and eight year olds) who thirst for learning. My students are all Latino and the majority are first generation Americans. The school is in a high poverty, urban neighborhood. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade learning center with a student population of 1,100. We are a year round school calendar that begins in July and ends in June.
