  • Winter Reading Challenge

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you for donating wonderful, high quality books for the Reading Challenge I held at my school library. My students were highly motivated to read to earn the books as prizes. I wish you could have seen their faces as picked out their new books. Many of my students have very few books of their own so they felt special. I promise you these books have been read and well loved.

The books you donated have instilled a love of reading in my students. Thank you again for making a difference in the life of a child.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Manzo

  • Diverse and Inclusive Books

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you for bringing diverse and inclusive books to my library for students to read in English and in Spanish like "My Name is Isabel". The students have loved every one of these books! Representation in children's books is so important. When students see characters that look like themselves in these books that you donated, they feel validated. I see their eyes light up when they are reading them. They relate to these characters and their culture.

Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child.”

  • Students Study in Spanish

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank for these high quality, authentic Spanish books for my students such as "Esperanza Rising" by Pam Munoz Ryan. My students have not only enjoyed reading these books, they are learning about themes of hope and determination. The books are well loved and the students have been able to relate the characters and their problems to their own lives.

We are a dual language Spanish school and it is difficult to find good, quality Spanish books that are written in authentic Spanish. Thank you for providing them for my students.”

  • Storytelling Math

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you for giving my students high interest books that teach math concepts. I was able to use these books to teach measurement, shapes, less than and more than, counting, beginning division (sharing), and addition. It helps so much to have the first grade students read about real world math problems within a context of a story. It really engages them in the math activities. These books also gave my students new vocabulary words.

I wish you could have seen the students smiles when we were reading the books. Thank you for making learning joyful for my students.”

  • Historical Novels

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

Thank you for donating these historical novels to my students. As one of the generous donors said, "we must never forget". Yes, the subject matter of the books is heavy but the students were mature enough to handle the subject matter.

The books were used in an eighth grade history class unit of study called, "A Time of War". During the unit, the novels were taught within small groups called "Literature Circles". Within these small intimate groups, the students were able to freely talk about their thoughts and feelings reading these stories that took place during World War 2 and the Holocaust.

Thank you again for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Manzo

  • Books From African American Authors

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you for the wonderful books from African American authors and featuring African American characters. Stories like "Ada Twist, Scientist" about a second grade girl who is crazy about science are a huge hit with my students. These beloved books get read over and over. It is so important for the students to have books that represent people of color.

Thank you for putting books in the hands of my students. They have also learned much about Civil Rights and powerful, strong African American women who have made a difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Manzo

  • Beloved Books

    Funded Aug 11, 2021

Thank you for donating these beloved books like the classic story "Charlotte's Web" to our third grade students. I wish you could have seen their faces when they saw the books that they requested in their classroom . They could not wait to get their hands on these special books. Some students checked them out and read them all in one night!

I especially enjoyed seeing some of my reluctant readers reading the new books. I have seen a difference in their attitude towards reading with these new titles.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Manzo

  • Spanish Literature, Por Favor

    Funded Jul 14, 2021

Thank you kindly for donating to my project "Spanish Literature, Por Favor." Your generous donation was able to provide a class set of "Senderos fronterizos:Breaking Through" by Francisco Jimenez for a fifth grade class. We are a Spanish/English dual language school and have a difficult time finding quality Spanish literature for our classrooms, your donation was very much appreciated.

The teacher was able to teach figurative language and inferencing though this book. Each students was given their own copy to tread, take notes in the margins, and underline important passages.

Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child.”

  • Essential Book for Middle Schoolers

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you for donating "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck to my students. It really was an early Christmas present. Each student received a novel of their own to underline and take notes in which is so important when studying a novel. Being able to take notes in the text aided their comprehension as many of the students are second language learners. Students also drew pictures of the animal imagery described within the text. The students are studying the Great Depression in U. S. History so the novel made the history come alive for them.

Thank you for making a difference in the life of child!”
