Skyview STEAM (G&T) Lessons Take Flight
Funded Aug 8, 2024The impact of the donations which supported these classroom materials will last for years with my current students and those who follow!
Since I am licensed to teach several core curriculum classes, my teaching assignments change each year, and I am simply unable to keep up with the necessity to add new material to my classroom each year without assistance. I teach a complex STEAM class for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 this year and must constantly add new material to continue to challenge these students of higher intellect and interest.
I will use the material associated with the history of flight through the history of space flight and future exploration to stimulate the interest and excitement in the next generation of astronauts, engineers, pilots, and innovators.
I am fortunate to teach at a 2024 US National Blue Ribbon School, and I believe this new and captivating classroom material will help us in our constant pursuit of excellence!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Riley
This classroom project was brought to life by Governor Jared Polis.Social Studies to Last a Lifetime!
Funded Sep 23, 2023I appreciate the opportunity to immediately put the new textbooks to use in my classroom for 7th Grade Social Studies.
7th Grade students focus on the Eastern Hemisphere and work through the progression of key world civilizations, from Mesopotamia to the modern concept of nations. I was able to use the books on Ancient Rome to engage students in researching the progression of Rome from its founding through the Regal Era with guided questions to support information found in he texts.
We were also able to use these and other materials to better understand the Silk Road trade and the unique items that made their way from points of origin in the Far East to the Greek and Roman civilizations. The student groups made posters to explain a variety of new items to European merchants - like tea, umbrellas, gunpowder, and porcelain.
While classroom direct instruction is still an essential component of learning, use of reading materials and projects are also critical to long-term retention and understanding linkages!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Riley

Funded Aug 28, 2023The resources provided through this program allowed me to update my classroom books and reference materials in a way I never could have done with the limited stipend we receive annually. Now I can put new books in the hands of my students to enrich their learning.
Our school struggled through the transition from traditional to digital delivery of curriculum over the past three years, and we are transitioning back to hands-on learning in many content areas.
I have the challenge of delivering effective lessons across multiple content areas where resources - specifically books - are scarce. Social Studies material was outdated, Reading books were no longer linked to current curriculum standards, and I have created much of the Gifted and Talented program plans on my own.
I will continue to add to my classroom collection, so every student have the opportunity to read things that interest them and enhance their educational experience. I will continue my mission of teaching my community - one student at a time, more than 150 each year, and through everyone they then come into contact with!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Riley
