Cool Down Corner: Very Demure, Very Mindful
Funded Aug 26, 2024YOU did it!! Thank you so much for your donation! Because of your generosity and kindness, my students will receive the supports that they need to be successful this year!
Every year we have students with a range of social emotional and mental health challenges. Our school works as a team alongside their families and community to teach coping and social skills, how to better understand and manage their mental health as well as using their voice to name boundaries and triggers! Thank you for being a part of that work!”

Cool Down Corner 4 Success!
Funded Aug 27, 2023We are so grateful for the donations that have contributed to our cool down corner in my counseling office! Most of my students are new to counseling or haven't had access to different counseling activities and games that we use in play therapy to help them access their emotions and feel comfortable and safe sharing about their lives. The addition of fidgets and board games like "What Would You Do?" allowed my students to let their guards down, play and engage in a counseling space like never before. We even used Jenga and Connect 4 to engage in conversation about growth mindset, frustration tolerance and identifying emotions. We also have a collection of graphic novels and fidgets that students can engage with to calm themselves down either in my office or in class and students are advocating for these coping tools more and more as the school year goes on.
My students immediately engaged with the games and fidgets when they came to my office and were excited to see the new games. They've been more excited and eager to come to counseling now, and I've learned so much more about them with the support of the games, books, and fidgets in my space. I even had one student bring in fidgets from home to donate to the space for all to use because he knows how helpful they are!
Most of my students continue to work on frustration tolerance and advocating for support in the classroom when they are upset/don't understand the work. As a guidance team we are discussing how to incorporate a small cool down space in each classroom for students to calm themselves down that feels similar to our counseling spaces!”
With gratitude,
Ms. May
