Fetal Pig Dissection

Through dissecting pigs, my students have delved into a hands-on experience on the difference between human and pig anatomy. As an individual, they significantly improved their application of critical thinking and teamwork. They studied the anatomy of the major organs of fetal pigs.

At first glance, my students were a little shocked and taken aback. But then they got into it. After we reviewed the lab procedures, they were ecstatic to try something new. I gave each student in the group a role to which they had to stick too, and they took it from there. As the students began to gently cut open their pigs, I gave them different organ systems to look for.

They utilized this project to create a comparative anatomy presentation on their assigned organ system. Students presented to the class and were able to answer questions from their peers.”
