Pencils and Calculators: The Unsung Heroes of Math Class!
Funded Dec 31, 2024I’m still sitting here with my mouth agape, trying to process your incredibly generous donations to help fund new calculators and pencils for my 8th grade class. I honestly thought we were going to have to start using sticks and stones for math, but thanks to you, my students will now have actual tools to learn! The calculators alone are a game-changer—no more “math by guess and check” with outdated and broken models that were basically just very fancy paperweights. And the pencils? Well, let’s just say that my students will no longer be using the dreaded excuse of “I don’t have a pencil” to get out of learning. Equitable education begins now! Your generosity means more than just school supplies—it means you’ve set these kids up for success in a way I can’t fully describe. Thank you for helping make sure they have what they need to thrive (and to avoid the dreaded “missing calculator” panic before every test).
A special thanks to Loews Hotel in Philadelphia who, for the SECOND TIME, made an absolutely MASSIVE donation to fully fund my project!!! I cannot stress this enough: you guys are doing right by your city. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Butler
A Clean and Healthy Classroom
Funded Jan 16, 2024Thank you so much for all of your donations for my clean and healthy classroom! The tissues that you supplied not only helped me, but also my 8th grade team get through the sick season and we still have enough to hopefully last us through the allergy season!
The jug of hand sanitizer has also been very helpful as the seasons have progressed, and it looks like I will have enough to last into even next year! The golf pencils were the best part of the package though, as the students very rarely remember to bring pencils and making sure they have a "tiny pencil" available to use whenever they forget.
Thank you once again for contributing to this project. It has been extremely helpful!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Butler
A Brand New Whiteboard!
Funded Aug 23, 2023Sorry I took a while to update you! Getting used to a new school has been a lot, and teaching 8th graders has been even *more.* In addition, I hit a snafu while attempting to acquire the 16' whiteboard of my dreams... I didn't consider that I was on the third floor and it might too big to come up the stairs and DEFINITELY wouldn't fit in the elevator. It was, unfortunately, sent back to the place from whence it came.
After some haggling, I ended up with a smaller whiteboard, 8' x 4', but I was also able to get a few other needed supplies for my class, including an industrial pencil sharpener, some tiny golf pencils for students who forget to bring their own (anything larger tends to be broken and thrown across the room in my experience), and some cleaning supplies because they're middle schoolers and middle schoolers are the messiest human beings on the face of the earth... I love them dearly. 😅
With my new whiteboard, my students have been able to solve problems on their own, have examples displayed for multiple days to help them out, and have something to give them more of a sense of a put-together classroom. There are still things to do yet, but for all your help and donations to make my classroom a brighter place to be, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Butler
