Help Fertilize Graves' Growing Garden!
Funded Nov 28, 2022Thank you for helping "fertilize" my growing garden. The resources provided allowed my students to become more organized throughout the school year. This helped build upon their confidence and take away their fears of being successful in the following year, the 2nd grade.
The chair bags and book boxes became very important and valuable resources in our classroom. Our classroom is very small and did not allow for much movement. Having the ability to store supplies within hands reach saved us time and helped make transitions safer and easier. The book boxes provided the space for organizing assigned books to each student and allowing them to independently access their materials.
The writing resources (pencils, crayon, writing paper, and Ink) were very needed and well used. Every year, many students cannot afford the minimum schools supplies. I never want a child to feel like they can not complete assignments due to a lack of supplies. Every child was able to take the supplies that they needed home to complete assignments and projects. We are truly thankful.”

Organization is the Key and We are Locked Out!
Funded Dec 31, 2015The Bright Stars and I would like to say thank you for your generous donation towards our classroom's resources. The students love the chair bags and are putting them to great use. Since we have received the chair bags, there has been more order and less disruption within the classroom. The students are now able to keep their supplies near without the table looking cluttered. They are able to pull out the things that they need at that moment, which allows them to have space to work. There are fewer complaints about students taking supplies that do not belong to them because everyone has things with them. This has made a major impact on my class and I am very thankful.
When the chair bags arrived, my students were very excited. Some students were familiar with them from other schools that they attended, where some students were experiencing them for the first time. I explained their purpose and what should go in each part of the chair bag. They instantly felt like first graders because they had to be responsible for their belongings that are in the chair bag.
As the year is coming to an end, we are learning and growing faster than we could imagine. The current lesson that i am teaching is about plot. We have been reading many stories and discussing the plot of them. Now, we are going to create a short story about our class and determine the plot. We are soooooooo excited.
Again, Thank you, from our hearts to yours!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Graves
I'm Listening! But I Still Can't Hear!
Funded Aug 25, 2014My students were ecstatic when they arrived to school and saw that we had a functioning listening center. If you could see their faces, you would have thought it was Christmas! Seeing them happy means the world to me and with your help, I have made them happy.
The resources that our class received are a radio and a headphone jack. This allows my students to listen to audio books independently. Having a working listening center has encouraged my students read more . They have gained confidence in their reading abilities, they put forth more effort and they have a larger vocabulary. We truly thank you all!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Gates Foundation Back To School and 2 other donors.Shooting to the Moon with Words!
Funded Dec 4, 2012First, my class and myself would like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We have truly been blessed by many individuals. It is a great feeling to know that people who do not know much about us still care enough to help.
The donations that our class have impacted my class greatly. First, my students' writing skills and phonemic skills have improved greatly in the short time that we have had the materials. My students are more motivated to write because they can sound out words better. They are not as hesitant to sound out words in front of the class or during lessons because they now understand the sounds that make up words.
Last, but not least, my students are reading more. My students had a reading assessed in December. Result showed that some students were only reading 5-8 words a minute. These students were recently assessed and the results showed a great increase.
Once again, thank you all. It is people like you who give hope to my students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Graves
