Supplies for Incredible Science Experiments
Funded Nov 8, 2023My students and I are so grateful for the materials you have provided for our science projects this year. We started science after Christmas Break, so the donations arrived just in time. My classes get so excited when I walk into their room each day with my rolly cart fully of new hands on projects to do. So far this year we have done a weathering project with sugar cubes rubbing together by shaking in a container, made our own mold and cast fossils with Plaster of Paris, seen how lava can have a thick consistency or a thin consistency causing an explosive eruption or seeping out slowly by blowing bubbles into liquids. We have core drilled into mystery cupcakes to figure out what is under the frosting (crust) and mined and reclaimed chocolate chip cookies. We have also created an eye model and seen how the pupil adjusts to let light in depending on the need. The students especially love learning that the pupil is just a hole in the eyeball behind the cornea and how animals have a reflective material at the back of their eyes that help them see at night! Those are just some of their favorites so far and we have so many projects left to do with the supplies you have sent us. Students will be using materials to create a Rube Goldberg machine, a flashlight from an index card, foil, a battery, and an LED light. They will create a paper roller coaster and adjust the velocity to keep riders from entering an alligators mouth at the end, and using batteries to create closed and open circuits with our electricity kits. All of these would not be possible without the supplies you sent our way! My students are having a blast learning how much fun science is and I am encouraging them into different science vocations as they learn. Your influence on young minds is priceless and my appreciation goes far beyond a short thank you note. I hope you understand how much you mean to our school and community!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Broy
