Our Environment: A Visual Celebration
Funded Aug 31, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation of printmaking supplies for our classroom. My students are in Art III; thus, they are committed art students. Being able to experiment with a wide variety of materials and technique is a part of our curriculum that you have helped to support. Another part of our curriculum is to engage in a group project. Your supplies have helped us to achieve this goal also.
This fall we began our project by going on a field trip to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens where we took photos and drew sketches. Upon our return to the classroom, we created watercolors based upon our sketches. Another beautiful fall day, we took our sketchbooks outside on the school grounds and drew leaves, acorns, sweetgum balls, and pinecones. As a class, we took our sketches and turned them into linoleum block prints. We are now in the process of assembling the prints into a large "collage" of leaves. We are continuing our work on this part of the project.
We hope you are as excited as we are to see the beautiful prints we were able to create.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lane
Creativity, Culture, and Community
Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you so much for believing in the importance of art in our schools! Your generous donation will make a huge difference to my students who have never had the opportunity to paint with oil paints before. I can’t wait to see their reactions to the supplies when they arrive. We look forward to sharing our creations with you as soon as possible!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lane

Funded Aug 20, 2023My students and I were thrilled to receive our clay and our clay tools. If you have never picked up a box of clay, it is heavy! The students (and the office staff) were both instantly shocked at how much such a small box could weigh. At the end of our project, they (both the students and the office staff) were equally surprised and delighted by the number and variety of vessels our students were able to produce using just two, small (but heavy) boxes of clay. We all found the whole project very exciting.
For the last three years, our students had been limited to working two-dimensionally due to a broken kiln and restrictions resulting from COVID. They were delighted to have the opportunity to explore a new media and various new techniques. Our district's commitment to repair our kiln along with your donation of supplies made this possible. Clay is such a versatile medium, we look forward to many future explorations.
As an art teacher, I am constantly surprised by the fact that some students who draw with ease and confidence struggle when working with other materials while other students who may find drawing challenging jump in and create beautiful three-dimensional artworks. Thank you for giving these students a chance to shine and to delight in the creative process.
Last night, we hosted an open house for prospective IB students. I was able to showcase many of the pottery vessels our class created. Prospective students and parents all commented on how wonderful it was to see a variety of materials and techniques employed in our classes.
Your gift has truly made a difference in the life of our school! It carries a heavy weight and impact!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lane
