Literature Links for Little Learners

The past few months teaching social emotional skills to my Pre-K students has come alive through the use of the books you so generously provided. Each week we delve into a new topic such as: listening, focusing attention, following directions, asking for help, and identifying feelings. Students learn and practice the skills during large group time.

At the end of the week, I present the book and discuss how the characters are using the skill we learned about throughout the week. The children are always eager to point out how characters are using (or not using) these skills. This helps them to engage and helps me to assess how well they are understanding and applying what they have learned.

The books are then placed in our classroom book area where they are often reread by staff or retold by students as they look at the pictures. The stories help students to remember the skills they have learned.”
