DRAMA (em)POWER(ment) TOOLS
Funded Aug 17, 2023Thank you so much for your generosity. I was so thrilled to be able to get the power tools (disc sander and nail gun) for set-building for my drama classes. They are already being put to good use, and it's so neat to be able to involve students in set-building. It really makes them feel like they have the power to build what they can imagine.
We've already nearly completed one project, as shown in the photos attached - rehearsal cubes for our classroom! These are pieces of plywood in 16-inch squares, that can serve as substitutes for more finished set pieces when we are rehearsing plays or scenes in our classroom before our final performance on stage. They are all the same size and shape, and can be stacked or reconfigured so that they take up the approximate space that our finished set pieces will. These will eventually be painted black. I and a few of my admin pre-cut all the pieces, I allowed my high schoolers to be part of the assembly with the nail gun (heavily supervised), and my middle schoolers took turns with the sander if they chose. Being able to put things together is such an essential skill, and I'm so glad that my students will get to use a finished product that they built.
Our next project is building set pieces for our school musical (once the musical has been voted on and finalized). We are so excited! Thank you so much.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hughes
