Activity: Writing with "The Perfect Pen"
Funded Dec 13, 2024I really appreciate being able to make the process of writing less intimidating for these students.
For so many of them, the concept of a "favorite pen" is like having a "favorite tool at the dentist!"
The tools from this project: high quality pens, Sharpies, even the Magnetic Poetry and the lap desk, all exist in my room as luxuries that help students find the joy in writing, by making the process that much more comfortable.
Just like with a great pair of shoes you can walk further, and a great knife makes cooking so much easier, so the right tools for writing make the process wonderful, and it means we get to read the language that comes from these kids' minds--I'm lucky enough to be the one reading most of it, for now- and I am so glad to have the opportunity!
Thanks again!”

Inviting & Comfortable Night-School Space for Some Deserving Kids!
Funded Oct 17, 2024Since letting the students in the night program pick out furniture to order, there has been an excitement around here that is just wonderful! Whether they were here when we ordered it or not, many students have also been excited to show me their skills building what's arrived in big cardboard boxes! More importantly, students talk about the furniture as their own, "that's my chair," "I picked this out" or "I built this" are important things to say and feel about a high-school classroom--especially for students who are otherwise unhoused and might never have experienced that feeling of pride and ownership.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping these students feel a comfort and belonging in our night school program: we couldn't have done it without your support!
The photos show the classroom as it was BEFORE the furniture and two pics from now, with some students in "their" chairs. Enjoy and many thanks again!”

Project Vine Alternative High School Supplies
Funded Jan 12, 2024The supplies that we received have been essential in helping to keep some of our most vulnerable young people in high school!
We have 52 students in the Project Vine program, most of whom are living in poverty, facing insecurity with housing and food. To come to school and know there will be basic amenities like a hot cup of coffee and feminine hygiene supplies, and small comforts like juice boxes, crackers and applesauce, means so much to these students, and so much to the staff who have always come out of pocket to make sure they had these things.
Your donation made sure that these things were in large supply when they were needed, and as one of those staff members trying to stretch what we can to help as many of them as possible, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart!
The students take part in a "work day," twice a year, cleaning, beautifying and personalizing our space to make it feel more like home, and to help them feel more ownership over the space. Their pride in cleaning and stocking their own bathroom, as well as organizing our supplies from this order, was palpable and a wonderful opportunity for them to say "thank you," through their actions, and their smiles, if not their words as well.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Dani Charbonneau
