My students loved every moment of reading Al Capone Does My Shirts.

My students learned new Vocabulary words, main ideas, compare and contrast along with cause and effect.

My boys were especially interested. I incorporated documentaries of Al Capone and also Alcatraz Island.

The students loved the documentary of Al Capone and were able to better relate to the character in the book. They learned that gangsters have families that love and care about them, and that there is also good in everyone.

After watching Alcatraz Island , the students could visualize where the locations were from the descriptions in the book.

Now they are making a collage of the book working in groups. Thank you so much.”
