My Reading Space

To share a little about my class, each student keeps a reading log of every book read to either me or my assistant. The expectation for entering my class is to grab their reading folder and quietly read their level reader at least twice. Then for credit they read it to a teacher smoothly and with accuracy and answer comprehension questions. They are required to read at least one book a week. This reading took place at their desk in the past.

But ever since the creation of "My Reading Space", the students love to go to this space to sit and read. After assignments are completed they have the opportunity to sit and read.

You would be surprised at their interest in reading just to be able to use "My Reading Space". Each student logs the number of books they have read on a classroom chart and it is very evident that my reluctant readers are reading more books than in the past. I credit it to the beautiful rug and seats you graciously gifted to us.”
