Math Students Needs Mental Health Days Too!
Funded Aug 12, 2024I have a pile of food in my classroom now. Thanks to your generous donations, when a student says they are hungry, I can quickly offer them a nutritious snack. During the mental health day that I provide for students once a month, I set out bowls chock full of these snacks so there is a lot of variety and students can choose whenever and whatever they would like to eat. Many of my students just aren't used to seeing this amount of variety and quality of snacks at school and they are so happy to sample some of the different things that your donation purchased.
In addition, the classroom supplies (markers, journaling materials, coloring books, etc) have been used already during my first mental health day on October 1st. The students are always curious how I have so many nice materials, and it is fun to tell them that the funds came from donors like you!
My next mental health day is November 1st. I always start the month off with a mental health day because I view it as a sort of reset day, where students (and myself) take a deep breath and reset for the month ahead of us. This time of the year for my students is emotionally exhausting. The darkness and cold has set in, the honeymoon period is over at school, and some are suffering from fatigue, depression, and family issues as the stresses of the holidays approach. The mental health days provide a little oasis in a sea of chaos in their lives. Thank you.”

Funded Sep 26, 2023The supplies that you donated to my classroom have simultaneously fed students, given students basic supplies that are normally hard to come by, and contributed to a sense of generosity and bounty in my classroom. The students in my classes traditionally have not felt that when walking into a classroom. Need a folder? Go grab one. Are you hungry? Here is a variety of snacks. Help yourself to whatever you need Need an erasable highlighter to help you keep track of the angle relationships? Pick a color.
When students don't have to worry about those basic needs, learning and enjoying learning becomes so much easier every day.
The snacks and coloring supplies you donated have helped me increase my selections for the monthly Mental Health Days that I do in my classes. Students disconnect from their phone, grab a snack, and then choose to play a game, color, write a thank you note, or do a sudoku puzzle for a class period. It provides a much needed respite from the stress of the school day or just the stress of life.
Thank you for contributing. My students thank you also.
