Hands-On Learning

I appreciate the items given to my class. The candy has helped a lot in motivating the students. They want to have something tasty so they want to do better in my class. They are like "Ms. Sturdy can I have a piece of candy." I tell them "when you do good on a quiz/test you can have a piece." They see the other students get a piece of candy, because they did good, and it motivates them to study and know the content. I use the candy to ask questions from something we either read or just spoke about to reinforce the content. You won't believe the hands that go up. Even if they don't know the answer, they try. So, that helps in the participation in class.

We have free time in 6th grade, a lot. I can give them so much work and they get burned out. I feel like the cards and the game, Qwirkle, have/will come into play with learning how to get along and use their hand/eye coordination. We play spoons with the cards. It helps with determination, speed eye/hand coordination, multitasking, and patterns. We use unsharpened pencils, because we don't have spoons. Plus, all that metal noise would be a headache. The plastic covered cards that I got will be some getting used to. They like to stick together. We're so used of the paper ones.

We truly do APPRECIATE the items we got!! Thank you for helping my students and me!!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Sturdy
