Classroom Chameleon
Funded Nov 9, 2023You have given my students an opportunity of a lifetime by making a donation to my Class Chameleon project. Having a class pet that is typically found in other parts of the world is opening up doors that would not have been possible without donors like you.
My students have learned how to care for the chameleon by helping feed crickets and waxworms to Steph. Steph is short for Stephon Diggs one of our favorite Buffalo Bills Players. We've learning the important process of dusting the food with calcium every other day to help prevent brittle bones disease. The special lighting UVBA, UVA that your donation helped procure helps the chameleon digest this life saving mineral. This project may inspire students to go into the field of vet medicine, herpetology or just simply be an animal lover.
Science is the obvious subject that comes to mind when learning about the chameleon. We will learn about the origins of the veiled chameleon in Social Studies. Sixth graders have to learn about the eastern hemisphere of the world. This is a perfect way to align both subject areas I teach.”

Funded Sep 3, 2023First of all I can't thank you enough for making my Trout in the Classroom program a reality for my students. They have been so excited for the program from day one. All 54 sixth graders helped with the classroom trout tank setup. We learned about the importance of cycling the tank for at least 30 days before the eyed trout eggs arrived. We tested the water parameters for Ammonia, PH, Nitrite and Nitrates all to make sure that our little ecosystem was ready to support life. The eggs just recently hatched and the trout are now considered Alevin or sac fry. We can't wait to watch them grow and eventually release them into a nearby stream. All that was made possible because of generous donations from you.
