Play Builds Creativity and Kindness in K

Funded Aug 21, 2023

When I shared the dollhouse with my Kinder kids there were immediate squeals of joy and excitement heard all around the carpet. We took the time to inventory and view all of the house items that were included and where they might live on each floor of the house. After talking about ways to play responsibly together the neatest thing happened... the kids who are normally shy and quiet joined up with our multilingual learners and they began playing together.

It was so special to see the exchange of language from the quieter kids with their new playmates. Some taught the name of things, others managed to share ideas of making other characters a part of the house (i.e. teddy bears that we use as counters in math). Both sides came out of their shells in different ways and it transferred into budding friendships or bonds during recess.

Our next steps are going to be slowly incorporating the baby accessories in our kitchen/dramatic play area. My kids are very caring and I know the new items will help them better understand how to care for something that is smaller than you and needs help to be okay.”

With gratitude,
