Sensory Friendly and Calming Space

When I thought of the Sensory Friendly and Calming Space Project, I pictured my students having access to a comfortable area they can use to relax, unwind, and learn. Our new calming space in the classroom provides the students with the opportunity to retreat into a space created to make them feel at home.

Our students loved the idea of having a calming space that looked open and flexible rather than having a chair in a corner. They use the space to take breaks, play together, and read. The new space we created using the materials you donated to purchase has become everyone's favorite spot in the classroom.

In addition to providing a space that appeals to all the senses, your donations were used to purchase sensory tools used daily by our students to support their social-emotional learning and needs. It also ensures that all of our students have access to one snack per day.”
