Books & Fun!
Funded Nov 6, 2023Thank you so much for supporting my project and giving my students more resources in the classroom. The use of highlighters is key in the classroom and has been a major help for my students as many either do not have a highlighter or lose their highlighters frequently. This also allows students to annotate easily and have a visible color on their paper in comparison to underlining important information with their pencils. In our recent unit, highlighting the stories have help tremendously and will further help them when getting into Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet right after spring break!
Along with this, the use of the other donated materials are accessible for new learning activities to help branch students away from the classic worksheet or online work they are accustomed to. Whether making a visual jam board or anchor chart, the anchor chart pad works great for both.
Lastly, I cannot thank you all enough for the books donated to my classroom library! Although many of my students do not read, it is amazing to see the amount of engagement and attention the bookshelf is getting the more it grows!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flores

Funded Oct 17, 2023From the bottom of my heart, I truly appreciate your donations and being able to fund this classroom library.
As a second year English teacher, I have noticed how disconnected many of my students are from reading. In this, our class texts are probably the most many of them will read throughout the school year. Our in class texts are generally short stories as we follow CCSD's adopted curriculum MyPerspectives. With this, I have made it a goal to include books that have similar concepts to our unit's theme such ass mythology and survival. However, once I started receiving the books requested for from this donation, it has been a turn around for many students. I now find many students browsing my class library before the class ends and will ask me to hold a book for them while the finish their current one from the school library. I currently have a group of girls in my sixth period who are actively browsing and checking out books from the library and reporting back on how they felt about the story. I have noticed a major change in the interest once I started including novels for young adult audiences as that it what many of my students see on their TikTok "for you" page. With this classroom library, I have seen more students read novels in the classroom when the classwork is completed in contrast to resorting to one's Chromebook. Overall, it is with much gratitude to receive this donation and allow my student to browse novels they find interest in and begin their reading journey!”
