My students are exceptional students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Their ages range from 7 to 11. I teach 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in the same classroom. All of them are verbal, and the majority can read, but when it comes to comprehension, they struggle and I have to use different strategies and tools to help them understand what they read. A similar situation happens during Math lectures, abstract concepts are very difficult for them to understand, but with the help of manipulatives, they can understand the concepts a little bit easier. Any extra help they can have would be gratefully appreciated by them, their parents, teachers, and school personnel. We need to help these children to succeed and reach the maximum level of independence.
