Joyful Learning Through Engagement

Thank you, DEED, for helping the classroom teachers of Alaska buy learning materials and teaching supplies for our classrooms. I used the money to catch up my stores of expendable classroom supplies, including everyday items like glue sticks and other art supplies, and to purchase activities and materials that specifically support cooperative learning, team building, and joyful hands-on activities in the classroom. Children in school right now are still recovering from social and emotional set-backs caused by disruptions of the pandemic. Additionally, with our state's shift to SOR it was wonderful to have some extra money to buy games and manipulates that support SOR with the youngest of learners.

Some of the most beloved of the purchased supplies have been the jack-back chairs, which give students seating flexibility within the classroom. With these chairs they can sit right on the floor but with back support. They use these chairs often for partner reading, cooperative floor games and puzzles, and to sit and visit with their reading buddies.
