Funded Aug 5, 2023The students who have used these materials vary from pre-k through high school, in life skills classes to AP Interior Design. All of my students had a similar reaction to the lightboxes and lamps - "Wow! I can really see that!"
Younger elementary students used the lightboxes and Magna-tiles to learn about shapes, colors and fine motor skills. We built houses, naming the shapes that formed each part (squares for the sides, triangles for the roof), along with discovering that two shapes together can make a different shape (two squares make a rectangle, and two triangles can make a square). We sorted the Magna-tiles by color as well. Some students got out different blocks and used the lightbox to explore those blocks as well. Oldest students used the lightbox to trace models in Interior Design, as well as using the lamps in lower lit classrooms to see their classwork. They were also able to use the Frixon pens in the class as a high contrast writing utensil, that they could still erase if they needed to make corrections.
These items have impacted students with visual impairments throughout the district.”
With gratitude,
