Create a Love for Reading

Everything that was purchased by our donors has been a big hit with every student in every grade level.. Students were quite interested in the articles in the Time for Kids magazines, especially the article about the "Buddy Benches". In fact, one of the teachers shared how proud the students were to read and share their magazines when they returned to the classroom. Also, the students could not wait to return to our class and read the novel about Cesar Chavez. They were actively engaged with creating their protest signs and role playing being an actual protestor. At the end of class, they did not want to stop reading. In addition, to reading the novel, they were able to view various videos about the life and works of Cesar Chavez using the donated headphones. They were appalled and saddened about the working conditions of the farmers back then. This led to more discussions about other injustices and being treated fairly. We certainly appreciate the items that were funded by your organization to enable our students to read and share information about historical moments, as well as, current and future projects. It has allowed our students to focus on creating a more fair and just system in the future.”
