Child Development
Funded Sep 26, 2023Our 4- and 5-year-old preschool children were excited to see all the wonderful new manipulatives and social-emotional books displayed in our classroom. We read a social-emotional book once a week about self-control. One particular book is about taking turns. When children use manipulatives daily, they practice taking turns. Most times the manipulatives are used as intended like sorting gems by color into coordinating baskets or used imaginatively like making tall towers with magnetic tiles. The manipulatives help develop and strengthen fine motor skills, so children are able to grasp writing tools efficiently.
Children will continue to practice correct grasping of their writing, coloring, and cutting tools. They will continue to listen to social-emotional books that build character and self-control. Children will practice skills like recognizing and identifying their own feelings as well as other's feelings.”

Funded Aug 6, 2023When we first received the packages, the children were excited and curious to see what was in the boxes. They gathered around a table and watched me open them up. They were in awe to know we received art supplies for our arts and crafts time.
One specific art project I proposed in my project letter was for the children to make an art craft of an Alaska Native group. The Athabascan baby belts using children names. This art project helps children with name recognition, not only their own name, but their peers' names as well. The lesson broadly teaches children how Athabascan babies were carried in a baby belt a long time ago.
Our future art project will come from the Native American group of the lower 48. Our preschoolers will be making "quivers." The quiver is a pouch used to hold tools. Our preschoolers will be using yarn to "sew" together brown paper pieces and glue on or draw and color animals or plants to design their bag.
Our 4- and 5-year-old children enjoy arts and crafts time and look forward to it every week. Thank you for your generous donation in allowing our little learners to appreciate the "creative arts."”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Don
