Reading Support for SpEd Students

Funded Sep 26, 2023

I teach in a school with students who have been historically underserved. We also have a large special education population. I teach US History without any textbooks or workbooks. As a result, we only rely on printed materials. Unfortunately, the school printer only prints out standard black and white copies created as a one-size-fits-all prototype.

With your generous sponsoring of my project, I now have a classroom printer with which I can differentiate reading materials for students who need specific accomodations to support their literacy and advance their knowledge of history as well as their literacy skills. These educational gains do not only benefit my students in terms of passing my class, but also serve as major foundational gains in literacy that they will take with them to their future jobs and careers.

As I sit and work with my students, I do not have to physically distance myself in order to change slides or interact with the Smartboard anymore. With your generous donation of a clicker, I can alternate through slides, play videos, and point to key details on the SmartBoard.

Thank you so very much in investing in the future of these students.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Koniossis
