Choose Our Students; Choose Love
Funded Mar 16, 2025your generous donation of tie-dye materials has transformed our classroom into a vibrant hub of learning and creativity! My students are currently engaged in a project that seamlessly integrates the Choose Love curriculum with essential vocational, life, and independent skills. We've set up a mini "tie-dye workshop" where students are learning to measure, mix dyes, fold fabric, and execute the tie-dye process. Each step is carefully broken down, allowing students to practice fine motor skills, follow multi-step directions, and work collaboratively. One particularly heartwarming moment occurred when a student, who typically struggles with sensory input, proudly displayed his meticulously folded shirt. The sheer joy and sense of ownership radiating from him was priceless, a testament to the power of hands-on, engaging activities.
The initial reaction to the tie-dye materials was one of pure excitement and curiosity. The bright colors and tactile nature of the fabric sparked immediate engagement. Students were eager to explore the different dyes and patterns, and the classroom buzzed with anticipation. Looking forward, we plan to expand this project by having students document their process through photo journals and create instructional posters, further enhancing their communication and organizational skills. We are also exploring the possibility of selling their finished shirts at a school-wide mini market, providing them with real-world experience in pricing, sales, and customer service. This project, made possible by your support, is not just about creating colorful shirts; it's about building confidence, fostering independence, and empowering my students to embrace their unique abilities.”

Funded Oct 16, 2024With the generous donation of our food containers and cupcake liners from the Hawaii DOE, our students are eagerly engaged in their Deli Box project. This hands-on experience is fostering essential vocational and independent living skills in a fun and practical way. They got excited after telling them we got a package and were ecstatic opening all the boxes we got. They appreciated how big the containers were and they noticed how the cupcake liners were the their school colors.
Students are learning to select and arrange a variety of meats, cheeses, fruits, and crackers in a food container, practicing fine motor skills and decision-making abilities. They are also honing their communication skills by discussing their choices with peers and explaining their creations to potential customers. These skills will be invaluable as our students transition into future employment and community living.”
