A Calming Space Where Students Can Practice Self Regulation.
Funded Mar 1, 2025Thank you for your incredible generosity in providing our classroom with an extra-large beanbag chair! From the moment we unwrapped it, my students were thrilled. It has quickly become a favorite spot in our calming corner, where students can take sensory breaks and practice self-regulation techniques. For many of my students, managing emotions and staying engaged can be a challenge, but having a soft, inviting space helps them feel secure and focused. One student who struggles with transitions now independently recognizes when he needs a break, settles into the beanbag, and uses breathing exercises we've practiced—a huge step toward emotional regulation!
Beyond our calming corner, the beanbag is used throughout the day for reading, group discussions, and one-on-one learning sessions. It has helped create a more inclusive and supportive environment, where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and engaging in lessons. Just last week, a student who typically has difficulty focusing during independent reading was able to sit comfortably in the beanbag and stay engaged with his book for an entire session—something he had never done before! These moments show just how much of a difference your generosity has made in our classroom.
Looking ahead, we will continue using the beanbag in social-emotional learning activities, where students can practice communication skills, mindfulness, and self-awareness. Whether being used as a calming retreat or a collaborative learning space, it has already had a lasting impact. Thank you again for your kindness—your support has provided more than just a piece of furniture; it has given my students a safe, comforting place to regulate emotions, build confidence, and thrive. We are so grateful for you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Curley
