Little Hands Making Art
Funded Mar 7, 2024The Little hands making art project was framed in provide each child with a small lump of clay. Invite them to explore clay by feeling its texture, flattening it, pinching it, rolling it, pulling it apart, and squeezing it. Students explored forms in artworks and in their environment. Expressing ideas by making building forms and clay monsters with imagination and creativity. Using others supplies like sticks, pipe cleaners, buttons, sequins, beads adding to a Clay Monster large and small details such as limbs, eyes, mouths, tails, etc. The art teacher asked them How many eyes does your clay monster have? Glue it on a googly eye. What other parts does your clay monster have? So, they added tentacles, horns, different types of feet, and a spiky spine. Finally, Students had the opportunity to introduce their monster's name and fun with the other's monsters.
My students love to use materials that they can spread and feel textures and sensations with. Kneading with their hands is real motivating for them. That's why, when they see that the activity is with clay dough, their faces and smiles are not long in coming. In addition, by receiving pipe cleaners, feathers and google eyes, it allowed them to appropriate their imagination to build their monster in a more creative and unique way.
We have continued to work in the art room with other related activities such as making the sculpture of an animal with air dry clay and animals' papier mâché which when dried allowed them to paint them with colored acrylic. We are aware of making pots using techniques such as coil and pinch that are very appropriate for young students and we will continue to explore others fun activities for my little hand art students.”
