Teenage Scientists: Science 101

Funded Oct 7, 2023

Thank you for your generosity in allowing me to provide the best possible dissection experience for my students. Coming into this school year, I had to build the human anatomy curriculum from the ground up. Before my employment at this school, the human anatomy course was mostly considered a "dumping ground" for students who did not know what science class they wanted to take. The class was "easy" because the current teacher did not take the content seriously, and I wanted to make a change.

A large component of human anatomy is completing dissections and exams based on these dissections. Unfortunately, coming into the 2023-2024 school year, I needed to purchase brand-new dissection equipment, as most of the current equipment was missing, broken, or rusted to the point of being dangerous. I knew I would need to purchase the new equipment, but this would take away a lot of the funds allocated to other consumables, including the dissection specimens, other lab supplies, and general classroom consumables. This meant I had to choose: purchase new dissection equipment but unable to afford specimens or purchase too-little equipment, allowing students to dissect but with limited capability.

In short, by donating your own money to my class, you allowed my students to have both. My students were able to dissect a heart, with those who wanted to join in being able to due to sufficient supplies. Likewise, the money that I saved from not needing to purchase the tools allowed me to purchase hearts, brains, kidneys, eyes, and fetal pigs for my students to dissect this year.

None of this would have been possible without your funding, and I thank you immensely for both your generosity and kindness.”

With gratitude,

Mr. Dolly
