Rockstar Readers
Funded Oct 21, 2023One-third of my student population has a reading level between kindergarten and third grade. It is incredibly unfortunate to see this happen to these children who rely on public education and have been pushed through grades even though they can't read at an appropriate level. Because of this, I have many students who are very overwhelmed in a middle school setting especially when they cannot complete the work that is assigned to them in any of their classes.
These resources will allow me to create book groups. My goal is to create videos read the books aloud and analyze them. Teaching these particular students how to not only read but understand the text will not be an easy task, but I am up for the challenge. I want them to feel successful in the classroom, boost their confidence, and hopefully provide a yearning for learning.
The students will be receiving activities surrounding the books from the project to help them analyze the text even at a kindergarten level. These students will be eternally grateful. Maybe not in this moment, but years down the road when they realized they were seen and focused on instead of being pushed through and overlooked, they will be grateful. Thank you again for your generous donation. I truly feel that this will be a tremendous support for my students for their futures.”

Funded Aug 20, 2023Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Working in a school where more than half the population is living in poverty makes this project that much more meaningful. I am able to provide necessary supplies and support for students in need. They now don't have to feel uncomfortable coming to school unprepared. The snacks are a happy start to being able to supply extra sustenance for the students. The hygiene supplies will help them feel secure and prepared to learn.
Throughout my career as an educator it has always been a goal to provide more than just a lesson. I want to be as involved as the students and their families want me to be and I am very happy to be able to provide these supplies because of you, my donors. Thank you again.”

Funded Jun 17, 2023To say that we are all so thrilled with our new and improved classroom is an understatement. Ms. Gutman-Britten and I are worked tirelessly to setup the classroom. We revealed the classroom to our new students as well as some of our old and they were amazed at how nice it is setup. They said that it felt super cozy and inviting. They were excited to explore the books that were on display on our new bookshelves. The overall color scheme of the decorations were very calming and the students took note of it.
The students are using the new materials by utilizing them during our independent reading time, doing our group work they are able to use the flexible seating that we received to do their work. Students are working on their organizational skills as well by keeping the room up. The books are organized by genre, so students are able to explore the literary art.
With literacy rates across the country at all time lows these supplies will help foster a learning environment for students to read and explore. Students will be able to be creative and flexible. Students will learn to love to read and for us reading fosters imagination, exploration, and adventure into different corners of the world. We hope to inspire these students to aspire to be what their hearts desire and to learn about those different career paths. Giving the gift of reading helps with that. Giving the gift of classroom furniture helps with giving our students the space to flourish. Thank you!”
