  • Fascinating Books for Fascinating Students

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

On behalf of my current and future students, I thank you for your kind and welcoming support. Reading is fundamental, but reading something of interest is even better. The books you have funded are an array of genres that will hopefully entice students to pick up a book and immerse themselves into the words in paper.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cedeno

  • Books Make the World Go Around

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

As a Language Arts teacher I strive to create an environment that is welcoming to all types of readers - from seasoned students who read daily to those who haven't read a book in ages or say that they simply don't like to read.

The books that I have been able to acquire, thanks to your kind support, has been available in my classroom for a few months now. I have seen students inch forward and ask me, "What is this one about, Mister?"

My mission, year in and out, is to have books that a student will one day look at and say, "I want to read this!"

Thank you. It is because of your generosity that I can provide a world where literature is available and worth my students' time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cedeno

  • Books for an Expanding Library

    Funded Dec 31, 2023

As the school year begins to wind down, my students have been reading more than they imagined. Quite a few have looked at books in my class library with intrigue, have asked about certain titles, and some have ultimately checked out books based on what they read from the blurbs and my quick synopsis.

I enjoy "selling" books to curious students who hear me gush over titles and explain how they relate to modern day issues. But the best part is when they return each book and tell me how they felt and what they liked or didn't like about the book they took home to read.

None of this would have been possible without your support! Therefore, thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cedeno

  • Students Like to Read. They Just Need a Good Book!

    Funded Oct 4, 2023

It is tough to get many students on board with reading; they tend to find what textbooks contain "boring" and doesn't pique their interest in any way. This is why I strive to curate a library that functions as a gateway to more interesting and eclectic literature.

Many of the titles I have been able to acquire thanks to the generous donations on DonorsChoose have become widely popular with students. They have seen that there is more to literature than what is given to them via a textbook. My classroom library is full of titles that they find interesting once I tease the premise. From manga to sci-fi and romance, there is something for everyone. I thank you for your support in making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cedeno

  • A World Without Books is a World Without Imagination.

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

Thank you for your kind donation. The books I received have been placed in my classroom library and are available to all my students. A few have been checked out already, which makes me happy as reading is imperative for growth and knowledge.

I strive to make my library as eclectic as possible, so in it you will see a variety of genres and formats. Students love to see how fiction and non fiction interact with manga, graphic novels, classics with modern stories. The idea is that they will find something that awakens their interest.

I hope to continue to expand my class library in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cedeno

  • Help Keep the Love for Reading Alive with These Books!

    Funded Jun 16, 2023

I would like to take a moment to thank you for your extremely generous donation. The purpose for both the Macbeth graphic novel and Fahrenheit 451 are to give my students access to physical books instead of digital copies. I feel that holding a book in your hands is a better way to read.

The version of Macbeth is also more accessible because the play is presented in a more visual way, without dumbing down the story in any way, whereas with Fahrenheit 451, I have read this novel in the past, but needed more copies to complete a class set.

You can't imagine how lucky my students are to be able to read these two stories—thanks to your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cedeno
