Making Math Meaningful!

Funded Jun 1, 2023

My students have been busy using the new resources in our classroom. One of the skills the students were learning for the first time was "making a ten" to add. The linking cubes were a great asset for this skill because it helped them to be able to "see" how the "ten" was made. The linking cubes were especially helpful for my students who struggle with math concepts.

The students were excited to use the cubes! They were so happy to have their own set of cubes. They even loved comparing the different colors that the linking cubes come in even though I keep the colors uniform so the students can follow along better.

My students will soon be using the 3D shapes to talk about the features in comparison to 2D shapes. They will also be able to do partner work where they take turns hiding the shapes behind a shield and they describe to their partner things like: stack a cone on top of a cylinder or place two cubes side by side, etc. Then they remove the shield and see if their figures match. They really have a lot of fun with this activity.

Thank you so much for donating these items to my class and helping my students learn to love Math!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Noel
