  • Calming Space

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

This is going to be an amazing calm space for students not only in my class but for the whole school. I'm a huge believer in social- emotional learning and the younger we teach skills for emotional regulation, the more balanced and caring our whole world will be. Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Take a Look, It’s in a Book!

    Funded Aug 7, 2023

We were not allowed to read books this year. We taught from passages, read-alouds, and scripted lessons. This made it even more important for children to practice silent sustained reading and read real whole books that were tangible.

Your donations help my second graders understand that reading and learning can actually be fun. I tried to incorporate as much joy into learning as I could under these strict district teaching guidelines. Many readers were able to read what they want and engage in productive struggle which is integral to learning how to read. It was gratifying when some of my kids would use the sound wall to figure out words in different books.Thank you for helping me do this!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Choose Your Own Adventure!

    Funded May 28, 2024

I am so excited to introduce the world of Choose Your Own Adventure to my second graders next year! In a world of YouTube, social media, and online gaming, it's important for our students to be able to use their imagination and make their own decisions in a safe environment. These books are a joy to read, build confidence, and stretch the imagination. Thank you!”

  • Differentiate & Laminate!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

I've been able to laminate until my heart is content! This has saved me so much money by printing and laminating myself. It has a provided a fun atmosphere for the year in my classroom. The convenience of laminating while doing other things and reusing the same papers has saved time and the environment. Nametags, alphabet, posters, signs, papers.. you name it I've laminated it. We are looking forward to creating special Mother's Day gifts this year that our parents and grandparents will treasure. Thank you so much!”

  • Back to Basics

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

These supplies have allowed us to complete class work in a timely manner and to save children from the embarrassment of not being able to afford supplies or snacks. In my classroom at a Title 1 school, the needs of some of our student population can be great. As much as I would like to be able to afford all these supplies myself, there's no way I can purchase everything without sacrificing things my own family needs. I didn't have to worry about pencils until the middle of the school year! Thank you so much for your donation and generosity.”

  • Building Our Future!

    Funded Aug 24, 2023

Although the new curriculum and changing landscape of HISD really threw me for a loop, we have still been able to use legos. In October due to another teacher leaving, I moved from a self-contained classroom to ELAR and Social Studies with over 50 students.

Though, I have not been allowed to create a makerspace for my students, they have had so much fun building during indoor recess. They've learned important social-emotional skills as well! Next year I will be self-contained and hopefully will get to use them more next year. Thank you for your generosity.”

  • If you can dream it, You can do it!

    Funded Jun 8, 2023

As we get further into the school year we will have so many uses for Legos. Right now we are using them for a math unit on measurement. It really adds to the excitement of our math lessons. The kids love playing and building after school while waiting for bus or pick up too! Some of our students today were using Legos to build their own salon when they get older. Others were building castles and forts. We have an upcoming science unit on how to build a bird nest and I think they'll love tring to use the legos for this lesson. I can't wait to see what inventions they will create in the future!”
