It's Thyme to Garden!

Funded Aug 16, 2023

The outdoor garden has been the most amazing asset to our science class! When seeing the garden for the first time, the kids were filled with amazement, intense curiosity, and pure excitement to get started growing vegetables!

Over the past three months, my fifth graders have had the pleasure of sowing seeds, seeing seeds sprout into seedlings, and then watching them grow into what is now a beautiful vegetable garden full of radish plants (which we are still harvesting), onions, garlic, beets, swiss chard, and sugar snap peas! Each day, students look forward to checking and tending the garden! It is a peaceful retreat where they can investigate, learn, and decompress! Not only has it ignited my students' curiosity about the natural world but it has also given them a greater appreciation for the environment and the importance of preservation; it may even inspire some to pursue careers in related fields. This garden has been an incredible supplement to the lessons of photosynthesis, plant survival, decomposers, ecosystems, hydroponics, engineering and so much more... truly, the lessons learned have been endless!

As we head into winter, my students will continue to learn how to care for cold weather crops and, in the new year, they will begin to sow seeds for the spring and summer months. Thank you so very much for your help and support... because of you, these fifth graders, as well has future fifth graders, will have a more meaningful and more successful science education!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Jones
