Supporting National Board Candidates
Funded Jan 1, 2020We express our deepest appreciation to you for supporting us in this journey of becoming National Board Certified Teachers. What we do now will have a lasting positive impact to our students, schools, communities & district because:
1. Students learn more. A decade of research shows that students of Board-certified teachers learn more than their peers.
2. Teachers improve their practice. It allows us to hone our practice, & reinforce our dedication to our students and our career. Studies have also found that the positive impact of having a Board-certified teacher is even greater for minority and low-income students. Schools with National Board Certified Teachers are characterized by better teacher morale and retention and increased community involvement.
3. Creates opportunities. Board-certified teachers are recognized as experts, they are often sought out for leadership positions. NBCTs serve as team leaders, department chairs, and instructional coaches. Many move on to serve as school and district administrators. States and districts are recognizing the need to build a corps of NBCTs to lead teaching and learning improvements.
Every student deserves teachers who have met the profession's highest standards for accomplished practice. Thank you for your support!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and 25 other donors.21st Century Readers Need 21st Century Tools!
Funded Oct 26, 2014Your donations have positively impacted our classroom tremendously! My students are now reading and do not fall behind, experience failure, and become unmotivated anymore. They can now read complex texts independently in a variety of content areas, including history, social studies, science, and technical subjects using the CD players and headsets that you donated with their audiobooks.
I was just reviewing my Reading Intervention class data and I am amazed at how much our SLS (Specific Learning Supports) students have progressed significantly since the beginning of the school year. I am proud of our students, and how much we all worked together to increase the number of advancing decoders from 0% to 6% and decrease the number of beginning decoders from 71% to 59%. There are even some of them who showed more than 3 years of growth already and one showed 5 years of growth from September through November.
This is what my being a professional educator is about, being able to encourage ALL students to analyze, reflect, create, connect and collaborate making them 21st century ready for the demands of 21st century globalization. Our motto: success no excuses!
In the spirit of the Holidays and always, we thank you for your generosity and kindness.”

Aim, Headset, Go!
Funded Dec 23, 2013Thank you for funding our "Ready, Headset, Go!" project and helping my special needs students become more successful in our reading intervention class. My students were so thrilled when they opened the box and saw 20 heavy duty Over-the-Head Stereo Headset, which are state-of-the-art and a big improvement compared to the standard headphones that they were using.
My students are excited to use the headphones during independent reading using audio books as part of their accommodation. They also use the headphones with microphones during Individual computer-adapted instruction using the READ 180 Software which provides engaging, relevant, and age-appropriate leveled reading material in multicultural contexts.
The READ 180 Software that we use allows for continuous assessment and immediate feedback that provides my students and myself with the information we need to track learning gains, measure program effectiveness, and inform instruction. Most of them just successfully finished their SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) tests and a significant number of them showed great gains with their reading comprehension scores! We want to see continuous progress from our students and this can only happen when we provide them with the necessary supports and resources that they need to become successful readers.
Once again, we appreciate you helping ensure that all students and teachers have increased access to appropriate technology needed to maximize teaching & learning in our classroom.”

Pocket Charts for Readers at Heart
Funded Dec 21, 2011From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank you for your generous gifts of pocket charts, easel board stand, and folding dry erase board for my reading intervention class. Your commitment to helping my students is sincerely appreciated.
I have started our reading program in the fall and have been constantly working with students with mild to moderate gaps in decoding and spelling proficiency but without a significant language learning disability. They are students with gaps in their decoding and spelling and are performing below grade level (16- 50th percentile). I am happy to let you know that it is through the generous support of individuals like you that my students are now enjoying reading the word cards for our unit words and high frequency words and are showing tremendous progress in their word decoding and vocabulary skills. With belief that thoughtful support from donors like you would continue to inspire us, we are sure that we will achieve our class goal of 80% reading proficiency.
Thanks again for your generous support of our efforts to increase the reading achievement of our reading intervention class. ”
