Funded Sep 4, 2024Thanks to your incredible support, our classroom has been transformed into a space where my first graders can learn, explore, and grow with the resources they need to succeed.
The pencil boxes have become an essential tool in our classroom. Each student now has their own organized space for supplies, teaching them responsibility and promoting a sense of ownership over their learning. The stools have created a comfortable and engaging environment for guided reading sessions, where small groups gather to develop critical literacy skills. The storage cart has brought much-needed order to our materials, making transitions between activities smoother and allowing students to access what they need independently.
One particularly memorable project was our "Storytelling Showcase." During guided reading time, students worked in small groups to write and illustrate their own short stories. They proudly used their organized supplies to create colorful artwork and later shared their stories with the class while seated comfortably on the new stools. The pride and joy they felt in their work were unforgettable moments!
The excitement in the room was contagious when the materials first arrived. Many students couldn't believe the colorful pencil boxes were just for them. One student said, "I feel like a real artist now!" as they organized their crayons and markers. The stools quickly became a favorite spot for learning, and the kids eagerly rotate through guided reading groups to use them.
Our next project involves a science-integrated literacy activity where students will research their favorite animals and create informational booklets. They'll use their supplies to draft, illustrate, and assemble their booklets, which will then be displayed in a mini classroom library for everyone to enjoy. This project will help build their research, writing, and organizational skills, while also encouraging creativity and collaboration.
Your support has brought joy and structure to our learning environment, empowering my students to embrace their education with enthusiasm. Thank you for making such a meaningful difference in their lives!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kirby
