Graphic Novels: Engaging Reluctant Readers
Funded Aug 14, 2023The other day one of my students finished one of our graphic novels. This is a kid who loves to act like he's too cool for school - he rarely gets excited about things and he has a detestation for enthusiasm that is pretty impressive. After he finished the book he came to speak to me about it. He said it was the first book he's finished since maybe the fourth grade. He was SMILING, y'all. Massive grin. I know he is so proud of himself and I know that this experience will empower him to read more books and more advanced books in the future.
You have given that child such a gift. Thank you for allowing me to give my students the gift of reading - and of being excited about it. I appreciate all of you.”
With gratitude,

Representation Rocks: Give My Students Representative Books
Funded May 17, 2023When students came into my classroom this year they were greeted with a robust classroom library. Students are getting excited about characters and asking questions about elements of plot and I can see this curiosity reflected in their class work too.
A lot of students struggle with independent reading. It can feel overwhelming, especially if you are not on grade level with vocabulary and comprehension skills. Books that interest students are essential. Thank you for helping me give my students options that excite them and books that empower them. I could not do it alone. Please know that you have made a different in the life of one of my students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Platt
