Middle School's First Annual Legacy Day Conference 2023
Funded May 7, 2023We are still waiting for detailed feedback from participants, but the day was clearly a success. I set my session capacity to 12 students and I had 12 participants each time. In fact, as students signed up for the workshop sessions, when a session was full the option disappeared--SO many students commented to me, "I wanted to be in your session but it was already full." So, students were interested in it just from the description!
During my plant session, students worked through 3 different stations--lip balm, foot soak and mindful mist. Because of your generous donation, each workshop participant was able to make one of each for themselves AND one to take to give to a friend, teacher or parent. They were so stoked to be creating something for themselves AND to be able to give one to another was an added bonus. They were so appreciative. Also, I was able to make a lip balm for each Legacy Day participant, not just those in my sessions, so like 500 total overall! It was very neat for me to see students using their lip balms over the following two days.
I consider my time at Thurgood Marshall (since 1999) to be part of my own personal legacy and my workshop participants were able to spend time with some other Mustang Legacy members--a former para named Ms. Zua (she was a para at TMMS for 20 years as well as the soccer coach for a number of years) and Miss Emily (a former student who just got hired as a first grade teacher herself).
Overall, it was just a really special day and one I will remember fondly for years. Thank you for being part of making it happen.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Huff
