The Orchard at MMS

My students were enamored by the idea of starting an orchard at school. This orchard you have helped us start will enable us to provide fresh fruit to students at our school while providing an opportunity for responsibility in caring for the plants. Having healthy fruits in place of processed foods will instill healthy eating habits students will carry on for life. I know that students will love seeing their care for plants come to fruition in a very literal sense.

Our next steps with the orchard are to include more varieties of fall fruiting trees, shrubs, and vines. I envision a future for my school were all classrooms have a basket of fresh fruit for students. Extra produce can be sent home with students for families to enjoy. This philanthropic venture will offset today's staggaring grocery bills, provide hyper local healthy produce, and build community ties which will strengthen all other aspects of our school community.”
